Help! My Child Does Not Want To Go To School!
Chong Wai Leng
Parents often panic when their child refuses to go to school. At first they try to cajole and even bribe the kid into going to school. But when that doesnıt work, they resort to threats and warnings. If that doesnıt work either, they bring the kid to see a psychiatrist. The general belief is that there must be something wrong with the child if the child refuses to go to school, or shows symptoms of stress, depression and even aggression in some cases. So the good doctor would usually prescribe some medication to counter the symptoms like anxiety, migraine or aggressive behaviour. The good parents would try their best to make life bearable for their child so that they continue to go to school and endure what they have to endure there for a good 12 years of their lives. And the good child would continue to suffer daily from anxiety or boredom (whichever category they fall into) until they reach school-leaving age, and for those who have just entered the institution called school, itıs a long way to go!
